Family "head" tables

The tables at our reception venue are rectangular and seat 12 people each. We are planning to put immediate family at the two tables closest to the head table where we and our WP will be seated. For my family, that will be my parents, my two brothers and one cousin (who are the three ushers) and their dates, and my paternal grandparents. My maternal grandparents are deceased. I'm wondering how I decide who gets the last two seats at the "head" family table without hurting anyone's feelings. Any suggestions?

Re: Family "head" tables

  • ask your parents who they want to sit with.     That's what I did.  If the don't want to pick anyone just make it a table of 10.

  • Where are your wp dates sitting?
  • My situation is kind-of similar.  My FI's grandparents and a great-grandmother are all still living, and I have no grandparents left.  My FI and I are martial artists, and our masters are husband and wife, and we love them very much.  They feel like family to us, so we've given them the honor of sitting at our parents/grandparents table.  Do you have anybody in your life who you feel that type of special relationship with?  Just a thought.  Otherwise, I think asking your parents is a fantastic idea!

<div>WP dates will be seated together and with other close friends near the head table as well</div>
  • I would just ask your parents who they would like to sit with.

Just to clarify, is the WP at one table, and their dates at another?  Or are they all together at one table?  Because you can't separate them...

  • I'm confused. Stage, what about that is horribly inconsiderate?  I'm doing the exact same thing with the tables for my family and FI's family at our wedding...

<div>It's the splitting up of the WP and their dates that's horribly inconsiderate. Why should they be separated from their SO when they are there to celebrate the union of someone else?</div>

  • Oh! I missed that part. Yeah, that is a little less than awesome. We're not separating the WP from their dates at ours.
